For Challenging Applications

•  Coke oven gas (COG) is produced in coke production plants and, when treated, can be a clean fuel source.
•  COG can be a challenging gas to compress due to its composition.

Coke Oven Gas

Coke oven gas is a by-product of industrial coke production from coal. The gas is created when coking coals are distilled in a high temperature in the absence of oxygen. This usually occurs in coke ovens or furnaces. Coke oven gas mainly consists of hydrogen, methane, and a small amount of carbon, nitrogen, and carbon monoxide. Coke oven gas is a valuable by-product and has many industrial uses.

Many modern coke plants provide coke oven gas treatment as part of their operation as it is  an environmentally-friendly way to create clean fuel.

Coke Oven Gas Applications

  • Compression of coke oven and blast furnace gas
  • Compression of synthesis gases

Wittig COG Gas Compressors

Wittig L & RVA series compressors are industry-leading oil lubricated rotary vane compressors. These highly robust machines can withstand even the most adverse conditions and guarantee process reliability and energy efficiency, even when handling volatile gases. They are a tried & tested solution in the field of coke oven gas compression.

Wittig L-GK

Wittig L-GK gas compressors for the compression of coke oven gas are available in sizes ranging from 20 to 100 with a capacity from 119 to 540 m³/hr and with operating pressures from 1.5 to 3.5 bar (abs).

The L-GK series are oil-lubricated compressors which are air cooled by a separate cooling air blower located in the acoustic hood. They are driven by a high performing built-in electrical motor with V-belt drive.

This series of compressors is suitable for handling untreated gases such bio, sewage and landfill gases. They are small, compact units which have been designed so that they can be installed without the need for a foundation. The components can simply be mounted on a main frame with rubber-metal bonded elements, designed to reduce vibrations. The electrical control panel is wired to terminal boxes.

Wittig RVA-G

The RVA G series is oil-lubricated with direct drive and capacity from 505 to 5,262 m³/hr. Its operating pressure is from 1.5 to 3.5 bar (abs).

It is a water-cooled model where the heat generated during operation is removed by cooled flowing water that travels through the compressor housing. The RVA-G series is suitable for processing and compressing purified gases. Plus, perfect lubrication with oil film between vanes and housing means no wear and outstanding operating reliability.
